About the Doors

The entry doors pictured are of fine-grained old growth redwood, all of which has been milled from salvaged logs left in the woods in the late 1940's and early 1950's. No green-tree lumber is used.

Detail of quality mortise and tenon joinery used throughoutRedwood, as well as being beautiful, is also one of the most dimensionally stable woods known. These doors do not stick shut or rattle with looseness regardless of season. The finish is three coats of Minwax urethane. No veneers are used, everything is solid wood.

Traditionally, quality entry doors are made with two panels per frame, the outer panel for the cold and wet of the outdoors and the inner panel for the dry warmth of the home's interior. The resulting air space aids insulation. All Ginkgo entry doors are double panel. Frames are 2" thick, panels each ½" thick. Mortise and tenon joinery is used throughout (photo right).

All doors are pre-hung, come with weatherstripping and a hardwood threshold. Surround boards are not included but may be ordered.

All latches pictured are Emtek brand. Tube lock or traditional Arts & Crafts mortise lock are available. Three top-quality pin hinges come standard, ball bearing hinges extra.

Window fret work is encased between two tempered panes.

Other woods are also available, inquiries welcome.
